9 Years providing guests with "more than a vacation..."

In August of 2003 we acquired a spa building that was being run as apartments and was in need of serious renovation... with the help of friends (about 600 man hours) we got 4 rooms (out of 9 - we finished the final rooms by February 2004) ready and our lounge and massage studio.

We held our breath as guests arrived. Would they like our spa? Would they appreciate the clothing-optional mineral water pools? Would they "get" our approach to massage? And finally, would they come back? As it turns out they did! We've had well over 7,000 guests from all over the US and even the world. By our 4th month we realized that each week we were having repeat guests and now average about a 73% repeat rate. We work hard to provide our guests with "more than a vacation."

In our goal of being a restful "oasis" where people can relax and be restored - "blessed" if you will, we've been blessed by them. We've been called by TripAdvisor one of the top 10 Clothing-optional resorts in the world as well as named as one of the top 25 hotels in the US for relaxation! We are honored to be here, making a difference in the lives of people.

We say "Happy Birthday to US!" Yep, this Saturday we celebrate 9 years of providing folks with "more than a vacation." We've still a few rooms left on Saturday night. Those spending the night will be treated to a great meal. Oh yes, we'll be in our "birthday suits" the whole weekend. BTW, this picture was taken this week - we've been having fantastic sunsets!

Massage Workshops *update*

At Living Waters Spa our passion is massage.  And to that end we've created some fun and educational workshops for couple to learn more about touch. Here is the current schedule:

December 15 Couples Massage Workshop

In this fun workshop couples will learn how to give a sensuous massage to each other that is good for the giver as well as the receiver.  Various massage techniques and body positioning will be taught to make it an enjoyable session.  This is great for couples looking to grow their abilities to communicate with each other via touch.  No massage experience needed.  The cost is $95 per couple for an evening of fun learning!  You don't have to be spending the night at LWS to attend this but there is a day-use fee of $45 if you are not.  Come and learn some massage!

December 31 - January 1st - New Years Eve Alternative Celebration

Living Waters Spa is the place to be for people wishing an alternative NYE celebration. Here is what we are offering:

The cost for this NYE experience is only $49.00 per couple plus room rates. While champagne will be offered, we discourage excessive drinking and that is what makes this an alternative from the typical "NYE party." The social massage is optional and we think something that you'd not want to miss.  We will also enjoy some amazing desserts and celebrate life in a sober context as we welcome in the New Year. What better way to end one year and begin the new one than in the company of the community here at Living Waters Spa.

Why human touch / massage is so powerful

From time to time we've had clients ask us why touch is so powerful. A number of years ago we found an article in Massage & Bodywork that kinda captured the idea of why:

"Human touch is the most sophisticated physical tool in the known universe. We cannot synthesize a material that functions like the skin of the hands, let alone something that operates with the sensitivity, intelligence and motor complexity of the human neuromuscular system through the hands.

Touch is also the only way to bring two energy systems into direct contact with one another. Michelangelo’s image of God’s and Adam’s hands approaching has the enduring power to remind us of the literal sharing of that spark of life.

We've had people laugh, cry, go into a state of semi-conscousness, release fears, embrace change, feel "reborn", get goosebumps, solve a problem, and enter into a state of bliss... on my table. It is truly an honor to touch another human being with the intent to bless, to heal, to restore, to love - unconditionally.

Oprah says: "Step out of your Box"

Believe it or not, Oprah Winfrey challenged a group of 40-something women to give skinny-dipping a try as part of a "step out of the box" episode. You can read more details on Oprah's site here.

Yep, stepping into the unknown or doing something you've not ever done can bring a unique sense of "life" back into you. Here is a question for you: "When was the LAST time you did something for the FIRST time?" It really is a good question.

We get comfortable in our life and we slowly drop into a stagnant state. Then before we know it we settle into a predictable routine and then one day we bottom out... "Is this all there is?" we ask ourselves.

Oprah's challenge is a good one. Here at Living Waters Spa we see people from all walks of life, all backgrounds, various ages and ethnicity come and try a "social nude" setting for the first time. Guess what happens? A revitalization of life - I'm not kidding. Doing things for the first time - things that reveal your inner self - have a way of waking up our sleepy (lethargic even) souls. To feel the warm sun ALL OVER your body, to step out of a pool and not have a clingy bathing suit to remind you of your perceived imperfections, to feel the air brush across your being... well, you've just got to "step out of your box" and give it a try.

Documentary: Naked on the Inside

Every now and then a documentary comes along and provides brain food for thinkers. "Naked on the Inside" is one of those documentaries. Here is the text from their website:

"Naked on the Inside comes at a time when the Western world has never been more obsessed with body image. This fresh and unnerving feature-length documentary asks a simple, but audacious, question: Beyond our clothes and skin, who are we? And so it begins. Six extra-ordinary people from around the world reveal their bodies and share their secrets in a unique experiment in search of their inner selves."

Naked is currently being shown on the Sundance channel as well as Showtime. I highly recommend viewing it.

Basically it presents it's subjects one by one and slowly reveals their personal issues of body and self acceptance. As they progress in various interviews they finally hit a point where they are to be completely naked. For all of them it is a very serious moment of self-awareness.

Having been in the clothing optional world now since 2000, I've seen some life transformations arise from shedding clothes. I've met people who once naked on the outside, experience a self-transformation on the inside.

Pregnant Aguilera Poses Nude for Marie Claire

A very pregnant Christina Aguilera proudly displays her naked baby bump on the cover of the January issue of MarieClaire, with nude photos inside the magazine. Aguilera is no stranger to nudity. Earlier this year, she told interviewers that she and her husband enjoy a weekly tradition called "Naked Sundays," when they spend the day at home relaxing and going about their normal activities completely nude. At Living Waters Spa we frequently have pregnant women come in for a "pregnancy massage" -- one of Judy's massage specialties. Judy has massaged many pregnant women including our own daughter-in-law Salley whom she worked on all through her labor. Salley actually slept through much of her labor and our grandson was born with Salley being comforted by Judy's loving touch.
