From time to time we've had clients ask us why touch is so powerful. A number of years ago we found an article in Massage & Bodywork that kinda captured the idea of why:

Allure's Nude Issue Hits Newsstands

Allure magazine's annual Nude Issue hit newsstands this week. Inside six celebrities pose nude and according to the article, "gained serious body insight." American Idol judge and songwriter Kara DioGuardi and singer Colbie Caillat both described the experience as "liberating." DioGuardi describes her struggles with binge eating and depression in her 20s, so posing nude was "something of a personal triumph." Other celebrities featured in the issue are Regina Hall, Emmanuelle Chriqui, a pregnant Jessica Capshaw and Catherine Zeta-Jones. See here for the full article.

On 3/15/2010 the Tennis Channel came to Living Waters Spa! Each year in March the BNP Paribas Open is held at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, Indian Wells, California. The Tennis Channel came to Living Waters to create a feature that will air during next years BNP Paribas Open.

The BNP Paribas Open, considered by many to be the "Grand Slam of the West", is the fifth most-attended tennis tournament next to the Grand Slams. It is one of the few major events combining both men and women over a two-week period on the ATP and Sony Ericsson WTA Tours. Held annually at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, a state-of-the-art facility boasting a 16,000 seat stadium, the second largest in the world is one of the world's most beautiful venues for watching the top professionals compete. In 2007, 303,398 people attended the event, making it the first tournament, outside of the Grand Slams, to ever pass the 300,000 mark.

A "normal" woman in Glamour! Body Acceptance

Model Lizzi Miller created a stir in the fashion world after she appeared nude except for a thong in the September issue of Glamour magazine. Glamour--and other women's fashion magazines--typically feature thin, unrealistically-shaped supermodels. But Miller, at 180 lbs., posed nude for the issue, complete with "stomach pooch." Readers immediately began flooding Glamour with positive responses for showing a "typical" American woman. Web sites such as Facebook, MSN and Jezebel.com joined the discussion. Glamour editor Cindi Leive told Matt Lauer on the Today show,"It's a sign of the times that women are really looking for a little bit more authenticity and little bit less artifice in every part of their lives."

The article goes on and says: "“Immediately, within hours of the magazine coming out, we had people telling us they were e-mailing it to friends, and that it was the first time they felt good about their own bodies, looking at this picture,” Leive told Lauer.

One reader wrote to Glamour saying, “Get this hot momma off of page 194 and put her on the cover!”Another reader said, “Thank you for showing a picture of a BEAUTIFUL woman who has a stomach and thighs that look like mine! I have NEVER seen that in a magazine before.”

Yet another said, “This woman rocks and we need more women like her to make a mark on what the real woman looks like.” Glamour editor Cindi Leive said positive reaction to the photo of Lizzi Miller may change the magazine’s approach. Miller admitted the reader responses brought tears to her eyes. The Allergists voted to scratch it, but the Dermatologists advised not to make any rash moves.

The Gastroenterologists had sort of a gut feeling about it, but the Neurologists thought the Administration had a lot of nerve.

The Obstetricians felt they were all laboring under a misconception.

Ophthalmologists considered the idea shortsighted.

Pathologists yelled, "Over my dead body!" while the Pediatricians said, "Oh, Grow up!"

The Psychiatrists thought the whole idea was madness, while the Radiologists could see right through it.

Surgeons decided to wash their hands of the whole thing.

The Internists thought it was a bitter pill to swallow, and the Plastic Surgeons said, "This puts a whole new face on the matter."

The Podiatrists thought it was a step forward, but the Urologists were pissed off at the whole idea.

The Anesthesiologists thought the whole idea was a gas, and the Cardiologists didn't have the heart to say no.

In the end, the Proctologists won out, leaving the entire decision up to the assholes in Washington!

This Past Saturday Living Waters Spa in Desert Hot Springs joined 136 other clothing-optional / nudist resorts around the country in setting the record for the most people skinny-dipping at one time. This was sponsored by AANR - the American Association for Nude Recreation.

We had 29 people participate here at Living Waters Spa. We gave everybody a LWS hat and got in the pool at 12:00. We had two witnesses from our city - Mayor Pro Tem Karl Baker and Councilwoman Jan Pye. (I wonder how many other places had elected officials as witnesses?)

Each week we have 1st timers to a clothing optional experience and this skinny-dip record was no exception. The guests who had never had a social nude experience jumped right in and actually said: "our first experience is helping set a record!" They came back later this week and spent the night and got our famous LWS signature massage.

This Saturday, 7/11/09, Living Waters Spa is joining forces with the American Association for Nude Recreation (AANR) as they attempt to set a world record for the most people skinny-dipping at one time. Come for the day or spend the night(s) and join us as we join forces with AANR to set a world record.

In honor of this special event, Living Waters Spa will be giving away one of our LWS hats ($13 value) to all those participating. PLUS we will be waving day use fees ($45) for those who come for the day to do the Skinny-dip and get a massage! So you can participate in the official Skinny-dip, get a free hat, and one of our magical massages for only $99 or a couples massage for only $198. If you decide to spend the night we have some rooms for only $149 per night or $249 for two nights. These specials are in honor of this fun record breaking event.

Here are the details: at 12:00 noon all those in either of our two pools will be counted and the official count sent to AANR who will submit their totals from resorts across the country to Guinness World Records Company. All participants must register with Living Waters Spa, sign appropriate waivers and agree to participate by skinny-dipping totally nude. Participants shall complete an AANR APPROVED REGISTRATION FORM prior to the allotted time for the event. This form gives AANR and Living Waters Spa the right to use your participation in the count for the record. Additionally, a photo will be taken (you can turn around and face away from the camera or put your hat over your face if you are shy) and we will have two witnesses to verify that all who signed were in the pool nude at the appropriate time. I’m hoping to get two of our city leaders to serve as witnesses!

Los Angeles - Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy have naked days.
According to News24, "The couple - who have been dating for around three years - reportedly enjoy stripping off when they are alone together to keep their relationship exciting.

"When they're alone they prefer to be nude most of the time. They always have an afternoon of naked fun, it spices things up. But of course they are always dressed in public!" a source said.

Jim and Jenny are said to have spent most of their recent break in Hawaii - where they splashed out $25 000 to rent a beachfront villa - completely naked.

The pair are not the only famous couple to enjoy naturism.

Christina Aguilera and her record producer husband Jordan Bratman regularly enjoy "naked Sundays".

"We have to be the cosiest couple around. We have something called naked Sundays," the Dirrty singer - who has a son, Max Liron, with Jordan - revealed.

The Bucket List: or things to do before you die.

Not to long ago Judy and I watched "The Bucket List." It is a 2007 comedy-drama film written by Justin Zackham, directed by Rob Reiner, and starring Jack Nicholson, Morgan Freeman, Sean Hayes, Beverly Todd, and Rob Morrow. The story follows two terminally ill men (Nicholson and Freeman) on a road trip with a wish list of things to do before they "kick the bucket."

The story was great and both funny and sad at the same time. I think we Americans do not think about what we are doing and why we are doing it enough. We just plod along, doing our routine, nose to the grindstone, often failing to look up and see our lives. Yep, the Bucket List was a great view!

I was shocked the other day to see our http://www.livingwatersspa.com/ site have a 154% jump in unique visits on one day. Yep, a HUGE spike in visitors. Naturally I wanted to see why so as I looked at my webmaster tools I discovered that we were mentioned on a Brazil webportal - iG - as one of the top ten nudist resorts. This is the 3rd top ten lists we've made this year.

Living Waters Spa is located in Desert Hot Springs California which is right next to Palm Springs. Here in our town we sit upon an aquifer of hot mineral water (we like to joke, "there are no springs in Palm Springs!"). At Living Waters Spa we pump mineral water from the earth at the rate of 20 gallons per minute for 18 hours per day. We flow it through our pools and then it goes back to the earth via dry wells that gobble (technical term) up the water. So talk about recycling.

Documentary: Naked on the Inside

Every now and then a documentary comes along and provides brain food for thinkers. "Naked on the Inside" is one of those documentaries. Here is the text from their website:

"Naked on the Inside comes at a time when the Western world has never been more obsessed with body image. This fresh and unnerving feature-length documentary asks a simple, but audacious, question: Beyond our clothes and skin, who are we? And so it begins. Six extra-ordinary people from around the world reveal their bodies and share their secrets in a unique experiment in search of their inner selves."

Naked is currently being shown on the Sundance channel as well as Showtime. I highly recommend viewing it.

Basically it presents it's subjects one by one and slowly reveals their personal issues of body and self acceptance. As they progress in various interviews they finally hit a point where they are to be completely naked. For all of them it is a very serious moment of self-awareness.

Having been in the clothing optional world now since 2000, I've seen some life transformations arise from shedding clothes. I've met people who once naked on the outside, experience a self-transformation on the inside.

Desert Hot Springs, CA - Living Waters Spa opened their doors 5 years ago November 10th. What started as a dream for owners Jeff and Judy Bowman, Living Waters Spa has turned into a top rated boutique spa hotel attracting people from all over the country and Europe. “The American dream is still alive and well” says Jeff Bowman. “We wanted to create a spa that would offer people a chance to get away from their daily life, reconnect with life, and experience a bit of Europe right here in the USA.”

Acquiring a vintage 1960s “spa-tel” originally named the “Kismet Lodge” (named after the famous musical), the Bowmans set out to create something totally unique. Located next to Palm Springs in Desert Hot Springs California, Living Waters Spa is situated above a hot mineral water aquifer that provides the hotel with pure, odorless mineral water that is pumped from the hotel’s own mineral spring well. When they acquired the hotel it was tired and rundown and actually used as low rent apartments. “We hauled out over 30 cubic yards of junk just to get at the core of the building” according to Bowman. “Then once we started renovating we realized that the mid-century modern building was well built and perfectly designed for what we were going to do. It even had the 1960s quality imprimatur ‘live better electrically – medallion homes’ as part of the signage.” Renovation included reviving the hot water well, new pools, new pool decking, all new carpet and furniture, and even a complete overhaul of the old neon sign that proudly lights up “Kismet Lodge” and “Living Waters Spa” underneath.

Angelina Jolie appears on the cover of W magazine's November issue with her breast partially exposed, breastfeeding one of her infant twins. Another breastfeeding photo that drew national attention was in 2006, when Babytalk magazine published a photo of a baby and part of a woman's breast on its cover. When Babytalk conducted a poll to gauge response to the cover, 75% of the responses were positive. La Leche League International, the world's oldest breastfeeding support organization, applauded Jolie's decision to pose for the photo. "Breast-feeding in public reveals a whole lot less than what has been revealed on the red carpet. I think we do need more role models like Angelina Jolie," said La leche spokesperson Jane Crouse. Breast Cancer Awareness Month at LWS

Desert Hot Springs, CA – Living Waters Spa a European-style clothing optional resort is celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October) with special rates for survivors as well as promoting breast health, breast cancer awareness, and body acceptance.

Judy Bowman, along with her husband Jeff, owns the Living Waters Spa and Judy is a breast cancer survivor. Judy tells her story: “In 1992 I heard the words most women dread, ‘I’m sorry, it is cancer.’ Jeff and I were about to move 350 miles to a new job for him with our 4 children, ages 8-15. We all made appointments for routine physicals with our familiar doctors before the big move. At my exam I asked my physician whether or not I should get a mammogram; I was 38. He hesitated but agreed. Later in the afternoon of the test I received a call from him, saying there was something on the film, and he had made an appointment for me to see a surgeon two days later. I naively was not worried, and continued working toward our move, which by now was only 10 days away. Jeff wisely suggested we stop packing until we saw the doctor. When we saw him he said he wanted to schedule a biopsy, which we were able to do that coming Monday. In recovery was where I heard those words, ‘I’m sorry, it is cancer.’

“Those words caused our world to stop and we quickly became knowledgeable about the disease. My path became a mastectomy and ‘tram flap’ reconstruction a month later, followed by 6 months of chemotherapy. Jeff, my family and friends were wonderfully supportive.

“Fast forward to the present time -- I can proudly say that I am a Survivor! I have been able to go on the journey with a number of friends and guests as they dealt with the disease. There’s something about the understanding you can only get from someone who has been there.”

We’re going to let you in on the secret of the pure enjoyment of beautiful August and September days in the desert. It’s one of our favorite times of year. Here’s how to get the most out of it at Living Waters Spa, a popular clothing-optional spa with pure mineral water pools.

Starbucks Removes Topless Mermaid Logo

Starbucks has decided to remove its heritage logo on cups introducing the new Pike Place Roast. When the blend debuted in April, controversy erupted over the brown heritage logo on the cups featuring a topless mermaid with only a few strands of hair covering her breasts. The original logo, created in 1971, was intended to capture the seafaring tradition of early coffee traders and is based on a sixteenth-century Norse woodcut of a two-tailed mermaid. Starbucks denies that returning to the standard green logo is in response to the recent boycott by some conservative groups. The brown logo will remain only on Pike Place Roast packaging. Body Acceptance Promoted by Allure Magazine

The May issue of Allure magazine features an article titled "Skin Deep." Citing some recent attitudes regarding nudity (such as the nude statues in the Department of Justice - shown here - that were covered with drapes in 2002 at a cost of $8,000 to taxpayers and a museum photo of a naked Venus banned from London's Underground ) the article states that "Clearly, nudity--even at its most artistic--can cause unreasonable alarm." The photographic portraits of the five actresses: Angie Harmon, Gabrielle Union, Zoe McLellan, Jill Scott, and Ana Ortiz are "far from pornographic . . . and vividly illustrate strong women who are confident and uninterested in offering cheap thrills." Says Harmon, "This experience wasn't about being a sex object. It's about showing the female body in a positive, beautiful way." Jill Scott noted, "nobody ever celebrates women whose bodies are bigger than a size 8. But here I am naked in a magazine at size 16. I hope I can be an inspiration to all women. We're all beautiful, each and every one of us." The issue is on newsstands now.

Simple nudity is so poorly understood in our society. At Living Waters Spa each week people come from all over to experience the ol' fashioned skinny-dipping. New York Times Highlights Nude Vacations

Sunday's 4/27/08 Travel section of The New York Times led off with the feature article "No Shoes, No Shirts, No Worries" about the booming nude recreation travel industry. According to statistics cited by travel writer Michelle Higgins, nude vacations have become increasingly upscale events. The three-page spread includes a brief history of the beginning of nudism and how clothing-optional vacations are now considered mainstream and more in demand than ever. The article gives information about the American Association for Nude Recreations (AANR) clubs such as Avalon in Paw Paw, West Virginia, and Mira Vista Resort in Tucson, Arizona, as well as AANR participating businesses Hidden Beach Resort, Castaways Travel and Bare Necessities Tour & Travel.

Back in 2006 we had a guest at Living Waters Spa who later told us he was a writer for the New York Times. You can see the article here. It was a real honor to have the Times writer actually stay with us.

This latest NY Times article does not seem to be written by someone who actually stayed at the places mentioned. I talked this week with the President of AANR (btw, Living Waters Spa is a paticipating business of AANR) and mentioned my concern that the known swinger hotel (Sea Mountain Inn) was presented in the article. He too was concerned and was going to write to the author and explain the huge difference from and AANR facility like Living Waters Spa and that of Sea Mountain Inn.

We work hard at helping folks separate nude from lewd; skinny-dipping from sexuality; and that nakedness doesn't mean sex. Swinger places are the exact opposite. I'm not opposed to swinger places - frankly that means the swingers have a place to go and will not bother us or our guests. But I do have a problem when swinger places sneak into the nudist world under the guise of being "clothing-optional." The one mentioned does this all the time. Not to mention various claims of recognition and awards with no links or evidence to substantiate their claims. However, this time they do have the NY Times to cite... albeit out of the ignorance of the writer.

If you want to have sex in pubic, see sex in public, go into a hot tub that has had people having sex in it, then go to a swinger place. Nude Weddings Gain Popularity

Nude weddings have long been commonplace in the nudist community but the media seems to finally be catching up. Canada's The Chronicle Herald features an article, "Weddings exposed," about a large nude wedding that took place in the Berkshire Mountains. The article includes quotes from Carolyn Hawkins, AANR's Public Relations Coordinator, and Nancy Tiemann, owner of Bare Necessities Tour & Travel, who have seen the demand for nude weddings increase over the years. Last year's mockumentary, "Confetti," a film about the over-the-top wedding industry featured a nude wedding. In the film, an English bridal magazine stages a contest for the most original wedding. One of the couples, who is naked for most of their time onscreen, plan a nude wedding. Nude weddings seem to remind couples that their marriage is about love and acceptance rather than what one is wearing. Kate Hudson Finds Nudity "Liberating"

Actress Kate Hudson is the latest celebrity who says she enjoys spending time in the buff. The 28-year-old Hudson, the daughter of actress Goldie Hawn and stepdaughterof actor Kurt Russell, said she was brought up by her parents to feel comfortable in her own skin. The actress reveals she often spends much of her time at home naked and finds it liberating. Hudson is only the latest in a long line of celebrities who have recently said in interviews that they enjoy nudity. Last year,singer Christina Aguilera revealed she and her husband enjoy what they call "Naked Sundays," when they go about their normal domestic routines in the nude. Actress Eva Mendes told More magazine one ofher favorite pastimes is nude gardening. Hudson's latest film is Fool's Gold, co-starring Matthew McConaughey, who is also no stranger to nudity. Bluefly,the leading online fashion retailer, has released two new television spots that contain nudity. The ads feature the voice of Brenda Strong, the narrator of Desperate Housewives, and give a humorous take on the age-old dilemma of having nothing to wear by having the women in the ads deciding to give up attire altogether and go nude. In "Airport," a woman waits in a security line until she's asked to remove her shoes, the only article of clothing she is wearing. "Family Dinner" shows a woman raising her glass for a toast wearing nothing while her family, understanding her fashion dilemma, acts as if nothing is different about the gathering. The ads debuted on the new season of Project Runway and appear on major television networks. You can view them here.

Pregnant Aguilera Poses Nude for Marie Claire

A very pregnant Christina Aguilera proudly displays her naked baby bump on the cover of the January issue of MarieClaire, with nude photos inside the magazine. Aguilera is no stranger to nudity. Public nude saunas are a part of everyday life in Helsinki, as reporter Sarah Shuckburgh discovered on a recent visit. Breast Cancer Awareness Month Celebrated at Living Waters Spa with Activities & Specials

Judy Bowman, along with her husband Jeff, owns the Living Waters Spa and Judy is a breast cancer survivor. Judy tells her story: “15 years ago I heard the words most women dread, ‘I’m sorry, it is cancer.’ Jeff and I were about to move 350 miles to a new job for him with our 4 children, ages 8-15. We all made appointments for routine physicals with our familiar doctors before the big move. At my exam I asked my physician whether or not I should get a mammogram; I was 38. He hesitated but agreed. Later in the afternoon of the test I received a call from him, saying there was something on the film, and he had made an appointment for me to see a surgeon two days later. I naively was not worried, and continued working toward our move, which by now was only 10 days away. Jeff wisely suggested we stop packing until we saw the doctor. When we saw him he said he wanted to schedule a biopsy, which we were able to do that coming Monday. In recovery was where I heard those words, ‘I’m sorry, it is cancer.’

“Those words caused our world to stop and we quickly became knowledgeable about the disease. My path became a mastectomy and ‘tram flap’ reconstruction a month later, followed by 6 months of chemotherapy. Jeff, my family and friends were wonderfully supportive.

“Fast forward to the present time -- I can proudly say that I am a Survivor! I have been able to go on the journey with a number of friends and guests as they dealt with the disease. There’s something about the understanding you can only get from someone who has been there.”

The August 20, 2007 issue of Time magazine features an excerpt from the upcoming book "The Preacher and the Presidents" by Nancy Gibbs and Michael Duffy about evangelist Billy Graham. The book notes that Graham has been a spiritual guide to United States presidents from Truman through the current administration. Besides interesting insights into U.S. politics and spirituality, the book also reveals that weeks after John F. Huntington Beach Bans Nudity

The town of Huntington Beach, California, has successfully passed an anti-nudity law despite an outpouring of support from those who opposed the ban. Over 13 speakers, most of which were against the measure, attended the meeting, and e-mails from around the world were sent urging council members to reconsider. A poll on the Orange County Register's website garnered over 1,200 votes with 80% of respondents against the proposed law. But Monday, the City Council unanimously voted to ban public nudity where it is visible from a public area. Proposed regulations on women breastfeeding an infant older than age two and restrictions on wearing a costume or device that simulated nudity were deleted from the ordinance. The big issue was over a man who would leave his house naked and go outside to pick up his paper and generally just be au naturel. Our culture isn't ready for such simple nudity in public places.

Public Breast Feeding in Toronto

Toronto wants to make it easier for women to breastfeed openly at city-owned facilities. The city already has a policy guaranteeing all mothers the right to breastfeed at municipalities. A new plan regarding public breastfeeding goes
before the board soon to extend the policy to all city property. The Ontario Human Rights Commission has already ruled that women can breastfeed anywhere they please but the city wants to make mothers' rights "crystal clear." Another report expected in September will suggest ways to support public breastfeeding
in the private sector. Last year, the Region of Peel mailed indow decals that read "breastfeeding anytime, anywhere" to every restaurant in Toronto-area cities. Read more at Public breastfeeding.

Judy breast fed our children and never hesitated to feed them while in public. However, at the time she would simply cover up the child with a blanket and they would feed. This was before we discovered they joy of simple nudity and skinny-dipping.

Painting Of Breast Cancer Survivor Banned

A portrait of a breast cancer survivor banned from an art show in the Dallas/Ft.Worth area created a debate over censorship vs. interpretation. Artist Rhon Drinkwater used a woman who had a mastectomy as a model for the painting. Gallery officials took down the painting, saying it was not family friendly and there was an "unwrittenrule" regarding hanging "G-rated" work appropriate for all ages. Drinkwater says that considering the statistics about breast cancer and how it affects family membersof all ages, it is appropriate for everyone. She hopes her painting generates discussion about breast cancer, beauty and its interpretation and censorship. A poll on theWFAA TV website out of Dallas/Fort Worth showed that the majority of respondents disagreed with the gallery's decision. Judy is also a breast cancer survivor. Back in 1992 she was diagnosed with breast cancer at the young age of 38. She had our 4 children young, breast feed them all, did not smoke, and has no history of BC in her family, etc. etc. In other words she would have scored a ZERO on the probability test of whether or not she was a cancer risk -- but she got it.

Here at Living Waters Spa we have had many "heros" of Breast Cancer. Some women choose to have reconstruction while others choose to have none. Regardless, all are beautiful and ALIVE.

Sadly, the art gallary which banned Rhon Drinkwater's picture is perpetuating our culture's sexualizing of the breast by hiding it from being seen.

Bart Simpson Goes Full Frontal

The Simpsons are about to make Hollywood history. Not only is the popular series the longest running animated TV show and second-longest running sitcom in U.S. history, the new Simpsons movie will be the first film--animated or not--to have a full-frontal nude scene without being slapped with an R rating. The Simpsons Movie, premiering in July, features Bart skateboarding nude through Springfield on a dare from his father Homer. The nude scene is creating plenty of buzz from major media venues such as Newsweek to college campuses. Although the big-screen exposure is a first for the Simpsons, they are no strangers to nudity. The cover of 1991's The Simpsons's Uncensored Family Album features a nude Bart on a bearskin rug. Principal Suspended After Single Nude Photo UPDATE

After a nude photo of a Canadian elementary school principal surfaced online, he was put on paid administrative leave while an investigationis being conducted. The photo has been called an"artistic shot" of Principal Mark Classen standing nude on a beach while vacationing in New Zealand. Remove a Nude Sculpture - What is with our culture!

Here is the situation: A controversial nude sculpture was removed from a roundabout sculpture park in Loveland,Colorado. Residents were concerned about children viewing the sculpture that depicts two women and one man. Artist Kristin Kokkin wanted the sculpture to be "kind of a wheel so that the energy is flowing from all three of them and it really and truly is how humanity relies on support of people." According to Jim Baldwin, of the Loveland Visual Arts Commission, there has been controversy about every nude that has beenpart of the collection. What is with our culture!!! If you watch the video there is a young mother who says: "We drive by here every day and I do not want my children to see the nude statue..." Yet I'm sure this mom lets her kids watch "sponge Bob square pants" where cartoon violence, junior high flatulence, and other silliness abounds. Parents allow kids to see such cartoon antics but simple nudity should be banned... I don't get it!

One thing we've noticed at Living Waters Spa is the mental health that simple nudity brings. Most of us in America have been raised by parents like that mom. All the while the media bombards us with sexuality via provocative dress and actions. Normal human bodies are not seen naked. Vaseline has entered the nude marketing arena with advertisements for its new Intensive Rescue product line. The ad,Vaseline Sea, is called a celebration of the human skin and features naked men and women enjoying the outdoors.

The Guadalajara Reportersays that nudist and topless beaches are taking off in Mexico. Mexico's nudist tourism niche comprises more than 15 million people each spending $2,000-$6,000 on a week's vacation. U.S. tourists make up 70% of the naturist market in Mexico, followed by Canadians.

Media Images Affect Women's Body Image--But Not Men's

A recent UK poll found that a third of women respondents have such poor body image they think they are too overweight to ever appear naked even in front of their partners. The survey, published in The Daily Telegraph, concluded that "images of stick-thin models and digitally slimmed celebrities are convincing a generation of women to keep their clothes on at all times." Men do not seem to be as affected by media images--two-thirds of those polled said they regularly walk around the house nude. Although 46 percent of the female respondents said they like to do the same, a third of them would never do so when their partner or anyone else could see them.

Mark and Brian (KLOS) and Nudity

Here in So. Cal. there is a great morning show hosted by "Mark and Brian" on 95.5 KLOS. These guys are a couple of wacky DJs whose show runs from 6:00am to 10:am Monday thru Friday. The show is syndicated and reaches many distant cities. I LOVE THE SHOW... However,

In typical comedic fashion, they poke fun at being naked. This isn't bad, it is just the typical concept that we Americans have about simple nudity. The other thing they do is associate nudity with sex...

They just concluded a interesting program where they broadcasted from Hedonism in Jamaica.

In typical "girls gone wild" fashion they discussed all the sexual aspects of Hedo (as it is frequently called) and the nudity there. While I'm not against sex, I just find that this association of sex with clothes free vacationing extreemly limited AND it fosters the American belief that nude=sex or nude=lewd.

Imagine if we could get Mark and Brian to do a show here at Living Waters Spa... sure it would be funny with all the stereotypes and all BUT I think we could show them (no pun intended) that simple nudity has much more than sex going for it...

Here is a list of things that we've learned:

§ Deepening of Relationships. A frequent result of a clothing optional experience is that of a deepening relationship with your loved one. Simply trying a new experience together often creates a breakthrough and growth in the relationship -- especially when one or the other has been reluctant. We've also noticed that the reluctant one then becomes the one who can't wait to repeat the Living Waters Spa experience!

§ Body / Self Acceptance. Our culture has been brain washed by the Madison Avenue fashion experts who tell us in picture and words what a “perfect” body is like. How many times have you looked in the mirror and thought disparagingly about your body? Not enough muscle, undefined abs, too little breast, wide hips, or not enough hair, and so it goes. This experience puts you in touch with your body and you see that others are “just like you.” Plus, you realize that the “super models” in life are really not that pretty nude and the magazine “centerfolds” are definitely airbrushed. Bottom line: you realize it doesn’t matter what you look like.

§ Body Demystification. We all have a natural curiosity about the body. In the safe environment of Living Waters Spa the body is allowed to be seen and thus demystified. You see what the clothes are covering. The healthy discovery is made that bodies are similar and at the same time different. People are just like you.

§ People Acceptance. Once people are naked equality takes over. You no longer judge or assess the value of a person by what they wear.

§ Creation Awareness. When we go through life we seldom take “time to smell the roses.” Being in a social nude environment (especially for the first time) causes us to become in touch with the surroundings. People never forget the first time they feel the air and sun on their entire body. The sensation of “being alive” is heightened and the awareness of the world around is enhanced.

§ Communication Expansion. There is something about being in a social setting with other naked people. It might be around the pool, in the hot tub, or even under the sunny sky. But regardless of the context, discussions happen – about all topics too! They occur more frequently and with far more ease than in a clothed environment. One of the great challenges in life is to get the money you need to do the things you want...

Judy and I realized that the price point of our spa was beyond the means of many 20 somethings. We regularly have folks from 18 to 80 and in discussions with the younger folks we learned that they had spend many weeks saving (or using their already maxed credit card) to come to Living Waters Spa.

After doing some analysis (which I love), we realized that we needed to do a "reverse" senior discount... So the concept of our "Next Generation" discount was born. We give a very serious (you'll have to call us to learn how much!) discount on our room rates if the person / couple is 29 and under.

Needless to say it has been a real hit with our guests who fit that age group.

Heck I remember when we were in that age bracket (...way back in the day) and we hardly had any money to go to McDonalds, let alone a wonderful spa like Living Waters.

If we expect our clothing optional philosophy to grow in America, we who own such spas, hotels, nudist clubs and resorts, etc. need to step up and help the next generation to experience the joy of "clothes free" experiences. We are seeing that by offering a substantial discount we are able to introduce this next generation to the ol' fashion "skinny-dipping."

No Snow Here

We get guests from all over the country and at this time of the year many folks are wishing they could be here in the desert of Palm Springs. Check out this wintery mess from an email I got from a guest:

"Have you heard about the weather around here? Jeez. It's been terrible since we've been back! The Friday before last it started raining - pouring. (In February in Iowa!). It thundered a lot, rained, and rained, and rained. Of course, it was raining because for awhile it was above 32. However, that didn't last, so then there were slushballs falling from the sky, sleet, etc. Then it rapidly froze. There was about an inch of ice on everything. Twigs and limbs were snapping, some ice was falling off in chunks and landing on the roof all nights. Big limbs were hanging down, almost touching the ground. Power poles snapped off like matchsticks and thousands were without power. Fortunately we did not lose power. This lasted through the night on Saturday. This was supposed to be followed by a huge blizzard on Sunday, but when we woke up, everything was starting to melt. Some people were without power for over a week. And then this last weekend, there was more sleet and snow and very high winds. We didn't get the blizzard that the western part of the state got, about a foot of snow, but we got about six inches and it was blowing all over the place. Many, many roads were closed - and the two major interstates that cross the state were closed. It's been wild! Needless to say, the state is full of people who are losing their minds because they're READY FOR SPRING!That is probably more than you care to know, but I thought you both might like to know what you're missing..."

Judy and I lived in cold country for 17 years. Needless to say, WE LOVE THE DESERT!

Almost daily we have "first timers" to public skinny-dipping at Living Waters Spa. We got this email:

"On Sunday when there were a lot of folks at the spa for 3:30 wine and snacks, D--- saw that people are people and come in all shapes and sizes. She says that she just may get nude this summer..."

As Americans we typically only see nudity in the form of actors/actresses who are specifically chosen to be nude. What we don't see are REGULAR people - folks that have normal bodies. When people come to our spa they see "regular" people just like them. When that happens there is often a new awarness that helps in self acceptance.

Judy is a breast cancer survivor. At 38 cancer was discovered in her right breast. Her cancer was removed - breast and all - reconstruction and chemotherapy. She is a survivor and I'm proud of her!

At the spa our guests learn that beauty starts from the inside and that everybody has physical issues they must learn to accept. Seeing others who are "like you" helps...

Hi we are Jeff and Judy and we've created Living Waters Spa.

We have created a very cool place where folks can enjoy "skinny-dipping" in pure hot mineral water, get amazing massages, facials, body waxings, and other spa treatments.

We opened our doors in 2003 and have had guests from all over the US, Canada, and Europe. Most of our guests have never tried a bathing suit optional (also called by other terms such as clothing optional, nude, nudist, naturist or skinning dipping) vacation. But once they do, they have the most amazing experiences of their life.

We welcome you to come and experience what our European friends have known all along - nothing beats swimming naked in pure mineral water!
