Why human touch / massage is so powerful

From time to time we've had clients ask us why touch is so powerful. A number of years ago we found an article in Massage & Bodywork that kinda captured the idea of why:

"Human touch is the most sophisticated physical tool in the known universe. We cannot synthesize a material that functions like the skin of the hands, let alone something that operates with the sensitivity, intelligence and motor complexity of the human neuromuscular system through the hands.

Touch is also the only way to bring two energy systems into direct contact with one another. Michelangelo’s image of God’s and Adam’s hands approaching has the enduring power to remind us of the literal sharing of that spark of life.

Every time we lay our hand on the human body with pressure and consciousness, we are uniting the worlds of structure and the worlds of energy in the only possible way for this to be done. Human touch is the only context in the known universe in which there is a simultaneous and conscious contact of both structure and energy." [Massage and Bodywork – January 2004]

We've had people laugh, cry, go into a state of semi-conscousness, release fears, embrace change, feel "reborn", get goosebumps, solve a problem, and enter into a state of bliss... on my table. It is truly an honor to touch another human being with the intent to bless, to heal, to restore, to love - unconditionally.

Erotic Massage Workshop at Living Waters Spa - July 29,30

If you are a monogamous couple interested in learning erotic massage for each other, where do you go? Sure, there are instructional DVDs that might work, but they can be kind of “porn-ish.” You’ve heard of Tantra and it sounds mysterious and sexy but you may not be into new-age spirituality. Terms and concepts such as chakras, meridians, and kundalini awakening can be rather baffling and unfamiliar.

So where does a couple go to expand their relationship, grow closer to each other, and celebrate sensuality in a safe monogamous context? The answer: Living Waters Spa! On July 29 & 30 such a workshop will be held at the desert’s only mineral water, clothing optional spa, Living Waters Spa.

This event is called “Hot Summer Nights – a Summer Valentine for Lovers.” It will be led by owners and massage therapists Jeff and Judy Bowman who have conducted this workshop several times each year since they opened their spa in 2003. “We wanted to create a workshop that we would want to attend, one that would allow us to explore our sensuality in a safe monogamous context and learn some new approaches to our sex life,” says Jeff. “As massage therapists we know the power of touch. As a couple we’ve been together for many years and have worked through many of the issues that block intimacy between a couple. So we’ve put together a weekend workshop that will teach various massage techniques which will give you new tools for the toolbox of intimacy & romance.” "We have designed this weekend to be a sacred experience that is full of sensuality and joy”, said Judy.

The weekend starts on Friday night where couples will learn to give each other a sensuous massage that is as pleasant for the giver as for the receiver. Various massage techniques and body positions will be taught to make it an enjoyable session. This aids the couple to grow in their ability to communicate with their partner via touch. No massage experience needed. Then on Saturday afternoon the “heat is on.” In “Woman’s Hour” the man will focus on his woman. For about 90 minutes Jeff and Judy share erotic bodywork and sensual touch focused on the woman. In the evening the “Man’s Hour” is held where the woman will focus on her man.

During all sessions Jeff and Judy describe and demonstrate on each other the intimate massage and erotic bodywork exercises while instructing the couples as they work on their own partners. “We don’t know of another workshop like this,” say Jeff and Judy, “where couples can learn specific massage exercises that they may have never tried before, where they can discuss aspects of sexuality that are often left unsaid or only in the pages of Cosmo!” “In prior workshops we’ve had couples of all ages, and as you know, sexuality is far different for a twenty-something couple compared to a sixty-something couple. But as people open up and share during the weekend many wonderful ideas are discovered by all. Some couples have expressed concern regarding the presence of other people in the same room. We can tell you that while there are other couples (limited to 8) you are so concentrated on your partner that the rest are blocked out.”

A note: access to Living Waters Spa is restricted during Hot Summer Nights to those participating in the workshop.

We create RELAXing Memories

We got an email from guests that visited us not too long ago. She was preggers and finally delivered a healthy baby. Here is the email:

Dear Jeff & Judy,

I wanted to share with you that one of the tools that C____ used to relax me during labor was recounting our most recent visit to Living Waters - and it worked!

Thanks again in... more ways than one,

S_____

Yep, we are quite proud of the positive energy found at our spa. I don't think "Mr. Hilton" has ever gotten an email like that!

Isn't it time for YOU to create some relaxing memories?

Come and store them up for when you need them. Living Waters Spa - 760-329-9988

Shhhh! The best kept secret of summer... the Desert and Living Waters Spa.

We are a unique spa of spas. We ARE a place to detox, rest and be restored.

Listen to the words of real people who have just visited LWS:

“Wish we could have stayed longer”
My wife and I spent two days at Living Waters Spa. I have had other clothing-optional experiences before and really enjoy being nude. But my wife has never felt comfortable enough to be nude when we went to other clothing-optional spas, etc....until Living Waters Spa. Once you step foot inside the door, you are mentally transported to a safe, carefree oasis where you feel free to be yourself. The first night we were there, we soaked in the hot spring spa. I was nude and my wife wore her bathing suit. We sat and quietly talked with two other women who were soaking nude with us. There is such a non-judgmental and open vibe about the place. That night, we slept with our room door open and let the cool breezes flow through. By the next morning, as we met others for breakfast, my wife felt comfortable enough to shed her suit and enjoy the Living Waters Spa au natural. That's what is so special about Living Waters. You meet other interesting people who share your openness and acceptance (or curiosity) about being nude. If you have been thinking about experiencing a nude experience with other people, Living Waters Spa is a great place to do it. If you've never experienced social nudity, you'll never forget that feeling of taking off your clothes in your room, sliding open the door and stepping out free and naked for the first time. You'll carry that feeling of sheer joy with you the rest of your life.

“A Spa Experience in a Class of Its Own”
We are not big into reviews on the premise that those engaged in the hospitality industry are expected to deliver outstanding experiences. However, our recent stay at the Living Waters Spa spurred us to want to pass on our praises and gratitude. Our stay at the LWS was something special and beyond any preconceived notions of what to expect at a spa. The location, setting, and facilities are perfectly balanced and in such harmony with the gifts imparted by the healing mineral waters. That balance leads to a serenity that flows over all the guests resulting in an atmosphere devoid of interpersonal dynamics. You will interact, if your choose, with some interesting and great people. Finally, LWS massages elevate the practice and art of massage to a metaphysical near spiritual level. We left our stay with a changed ability to interact with our everyday lives and the ‘stress’ of trying to arrange the time for our return to LWS.

Yep, real people, real experiences! We are NOT for those who want to over-drink, party, be loud, or generally to "tox," we are the place to detox.

Come to the oasis!

*UPDATE* on the Tennis Channel at LWS.

About a year ago the Tennis Channel came and filmed a short segment promoting Living Waters Spa. The segment aired during their coverage of the BNP Paribas Open which is held at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, Indian Wells, California. Here is our "ten seconds in the sun" (pun intended)!

Follow this link and push PLAY. Our segment is about 23 seconds into this minute promo.
